Infinite Experiences

We were having an afternoon tea... talking about the past… family, friends, stories. The open window is in front of her, to her left. Daylight was dimming fast while I tried to sneak a photo so she wouldn’t notice – she’s never herself in front of a camera.

I managed to distract her into thinking I was just messing around with my camera, so she kept talking and rescuing all those stories … some happy, some sad, but all very precious and most importantly… filled with wisdom… wisdom which can be seen in her skin and hair, but specially in her eyes.

Maria de Lourdes is my mother’s mother… a woman who lived a life of many, many paths, a survivor, a very strong woman, a woman who gave all her family love a and taught them to live in this world.

Granddaughter of Portuguese and Italian immigrants, born in 1920. Was married for 64 years and had four children. Today she lives with her sister.

Maybe what makes this photo different is the indescribable love vibrating through my fingertip when I released that shutter, freezing that moment forever and capturing all the pain and all the joy… capturing Infinite Experiences.
